What is uterus arcuatus?

Uterus arcuatus is a variation in the shape of the uterus that is considered a mild form of uterine septum. It occurs when the upper part of the uterus, known as the fundus, has a slight indentation or "arch" in the middle. This results in a small separation between the two sides of the uterus, but the separation does not extend all the way down to the cervix.

Most women with uterus arcuatus are asymptomatic and do not experience any problems with fertility or pregnancy. However, in rare cases, it can lead to complications such as miscarriage, preterm labor, and malpresentation of the fetus during delivery.

Diagnosis of uterus arcuatus is typically done through an ultrasound or MRI. Treatment is usually not necessary unless there are complications or fertility issues. In such cases, surgical correction may be recommended.

It is important to note that uterus arcuatus is not the same as a true uterine septum, which involves a complete separation of the uterus into two chambers and poses a higher risk for complications.
